20 Υears School of Informatics

On September 1992, the School of Informatics welcomed its first students. This year marks the School’s 20 years of operation. To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the School of Informatics organizes a series of prominent events in May 2012. In specific: 

  • May 4: Invited talk by Prof. Joseph Sifakis from the Verimag Laboratory in Grenoble, France and the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland. Dr. Sifakis is a member of the French Academy of Sciences, a Grand Officer of the French National Order of Merit, a Commander of the Legion of Honour and among other awards he has received the Turing Award of 2007.
  • May 17: 2nd Greek Signal Processing Jam (SP-JAM2), where apart from Greek academics, participants include Prof. Yonina Eldar from Technion Israel Institute of Technology, who is an IEEE Signal Processing Society Distinguished Lecturer and Prof. Georgios Giannakis from the University of Minnesota, who is an ΙΕΕΕ and EURASIP Fellow. 
  • May 30: Prof. Christos Faloutsos from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania will become a Honorary Doctorate of the School of Informatics. Prof. Faloutsos has received numerous awards and distinctions from governmental, scientific and educational organizations of the USA for his innovative research and his teaching activity.
