Professor Maria Petrou

Maria Petrou studied Physics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, Applied Mathematics in Cambridge and she did her Ph.D. in the Institute of Astronomy in Cambridge, from where she also obtained her D.Sc. degree in Engineering. She has been the Chair of Signal Processing and the Head of the Communication and Signal Processing Group of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department at Imperial College London. Currently she is the Director of the Informatics and Telematic Institute, Centre of Research and Technology Hellas (ITI-CERTH, http://www.iti.gr). She has published more than 350 scientific papers on Astronomy, Remote Sensing, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Colour analysis, Industrial Inspection, and Medical Signal and Image Processing. She has co-authored two books Image Processing: The Fundamentals (1/e 1999 and 2/e in 2010) Image Processing: Dealing with Texture (1/e 2006) both published by John Wiley. She is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the IET, and the IAPR, a senior member of the IEEE, and a Distinguished Fellow of the British Machine Vision Association.
